Type 27 Gas Regulator Reset

Type 27 Gas Regulator Reset

Is your new Weber barbecue not burning as hot as it should be?
And you've tried all the normal tricks to get it burning hot again - cleaning the burner, un-clogging the burner holes, cleaning the gas jet ,etc...
Read on below, as there is another trick with the new gas regulators that can cause your barbecue to not burn as hot as it should.

The Type 27 gas bottle regulators have a safety feature to restrict gas flow, should a leak occur between the regulator and the barbecue. However, it can also be activated in a few other instances including:

  • If you open the cylinder valve, and the burner control knobs are already turned on
  • A newly filled cylinder is reattached to the barbecue

In these cases, a quick rush of gas to the appliance activates the safety device causing a low flow of gas and underperformance.
This is easily corrected by resetting the regulator. We'll go through the steps below on resetting your gas bottle when this happens.

How to reset the regulator.

  1. Turn off barbecues’ control knob(s).
  2. Turn off the gas cylinder.
  3. Disconnect the hose from the gas cylinder.
  4. Turn control knob(s) to high.
  5. Wait for at least 5 minutes.
  6. Turn off barbecues’ control knob(s).
  7. Reconnect hose to gas cylinder.
  8. Open the gas cylinders valve very slowly.
  9. Once fully open, wait for at least 1 minute.
  10. Light barbecue per its’ lighting

Note: Continual tripping will eventually prevent resetting from being achievable.
